Ghost of Cyclopark Marathon
0900 - 15th July 2018

Hope you are all fit and ready for the Ghost of Cyclopark Marathon! For anyone who has done one of the previous marathons on the course here by TZ Runs it'll be nothing like that, aside from we'll have a choice of their medals to choose from and more melted chocolate! We'll try to keep things cool but when you're in the high 20s you're fighting a losing battle!

It's going to be a warm one and it's World Cup Final day too That starts at 1600, so 7 hours after the start.

Base camp / registration will be on the tarmac track or very close to it, we'll likely set up under the bridge as that'll be about the only shade there is on the course.

We're on the tarmac track for this "Ghost" Marathon! It'll be 17 laps on perfect tarmac...

The first lap is slightly short and we'll have someone pointing where to turn right after that the entire course is "bear left". You cannot possibly get lost as you're in an enclosed park but there are multiple variations of the circuit that they have, but you're on the longest line, if in doubt "bear left"! Simple as that... bear left.

Lap Counting

At race registration you'll be handed a small laminated lap counting card, attach this to yourself with a safety pin or cable tie. At the end of each loop get this punched through by one of the hole puncher chaps or chappesses. 17 laps later, you're finished!

Time Limt

It's an 8 hour hard limit. i.e. you must be finished by 7:59:59 not on your last lap by then... finished.

Toilets

These open at 0800. They are located in the main building.

Weather

The forecast is looking really rather toasty indeed, high of 28C and not much breeze. The course is very exposed so sun cream, hydrate and take it easy...

Vegans

We've got vegan goody bags for some of you, If you'd like one and you haven't got a little "V" on your number please let us know as we have a couple spare or if we give you a "black" goody bag then please ask for a "blue" one.

Coke

I know a few folk don't drink so if you are one of those and don't want the can of beer or cider in the goody bag then please say and we'll trade you for some coke, we've got a few cans tucked away for those that prefer that.

Celebrations

Toby Cooper will be running his 100th Marathon!

Neck Warmers/Mugs

We now have SVN "Neck Warmers" (absolutely nothing like the well known buffs) and SVN green mugs for sale at £5 cash on race days.

There is plenty of parking at Cyclopark. For this event as we're on the track you'll want to park in the main car park rather than the overflow one.

Cyclopark Information »

Getting There

There aren't any general issues we're aware of so hopefully will all be straightforward. Please note that the Cyclopark main facility physically opens at 0800 and we'll be available to pick up race numbers from 0815 so please don't plan on arriving at 0700!

Aid Station

None of the usual running stuff at Base Camp, so no isotonic drinks, fruit or energy gels, but there will be cookies, crisps, jelly babies, M&Ms, pringles, nuts and all that sort of thing, there is just going to be the one aid station on the course (which you'll pass 17 times) and we'll have both water and squash to drink in cups.

Litter

Please, please, please don't! There will be bins at base camp.

Dogs

Unfortunately due to permit conditions, and hence insurance coverage, we're no longer allowed to let runners run with dogs. Additionally Cyclopark only allow assistance dogs on site...

Cups/Bottles

One of our longer term goals is the reduction of waste at events. One way you can help is by bringing a bottle that can be refilled (you can leave it at base camp if you like), thus saving cup wastage or simply reusing cups at the aid station, we have jugs there and the lovely ladies happy to fill up a cup again for you (or help yourself!)
