New Years Day Double Mega Challenge
Here at SVN we're always trying to bring folk different sorts of events and after the success of linking a parkrun with an SVN Challenge event we're bringing you hopefully something totally unique for New Years Day! (And quite possibly a one off event!)
Firstly that means that if you want a medal you're going to complete at least a Half Marathon. Secondly, the running Gods at parkrun align you'll have the option to include one, or two parkruns in that distance!
The concept being that you can start from 0830 (We'll have flexible start times to give folks options) - the final cut off is 1600 (which is a hard cut off (the park closes)). We'll have the 3.28 mile loop as used for the Cyclopark Summer Series. It's just over 5k from Cyclopark Base Camp to Shorne Woods. So the options hopefully will be...
1) Ignore the whole parkrun thing and just run a regular challenge event Half/Full/Ultra starting at 0830 onwards.
2) Run the Cyclopark parkrun (Start 0900 - Will be on the tarmac Cyclopark Track) and run x number of 3.28 mile laps before/after. (The parkrun counts as one lap as a bit more than 0.14 from there to base camp!)
3) Run from Cyclopark to Shorne Woods (Start 1030) (which will count as 1 lap) + run the Shorne Woods parkrun (+1 lap) and then run back to Cyclopark (so that'll count as three laps - 9.85 miles in total).
4) Run the Cyclopark parkrun (Start 0900) + run to Shorne Woods + run the Shorne Woods park run (Start 1030) and then run back to Cyclopark Base Camp (that'll be 4 laps / 13.1 miles or so) and depending on the speed you're running at and the timing of the parkruns you may be able to fit in an extra lap between them.
And for those worried about running from Cyclopark to Shorne Woods it's basically a straight line along the 177 Cycle Route. (Image of the map of this is here) If you are taking this route you just go straight out of base camp, straight up the hill past the garage, past the "Turn Around Sign" and take care crossing several roads that the 177 Cycle Route passes over and just carry on broadly in a straight line that runs alongside the M2 (you're never more than a few dozen yards from it) until you reach Shorne Woods - you can either just follow the 177 Cycle Route all the way to the main entrance to Shorne Woods or there are several paths in to Shorne Woods along the way (these are like to be swampy though!).
Basically the distance you run will determine the medal you receive... and there is a risk factor involved of possibly not receiving a medal!
1 Lap - 3.28 miles - Goody Bag + Concern that you're OK.
2-3 Laps - 6.55-9.85 miles - Goody Bag + Encouragement to do another lap!
4 Laps - 13.1 miles - Goody Bag + Double Half Marathon Mega Challenge Medal
5-6 Laps - 16.4-19.65 miles - Goody Bag + Double Half Marathon Mega Challenge Medal + Are you sure?
7 Laps - 22.95 miles - Goody Bag + Double Half Marathon Mega Challenge Medal + One more!!!

9 Laps+ - 29.5 miles - Goody Bag + Double Ultra Marathon Mega Challenge Medal
The event will be a six hour timed challenge event (with a different from normal final lap cut off, you've basically got a maximum of 7.5 hours). Complete as many loops as you wish within the time limit. Run a half marathon, a marathon, 50k, an ultra and earn some Mega bling!
It's our aim that this event makes an impactful difference to Cyclopark in a positive fashion and as such £5 from each entry fee will be donated directly to the Forestry Commission to aid them in maintaining this lovely environment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do I get?
You each event will receive
1) A really special finishers medal, custom made and designed, not a generic one.
2) A goody bag at the finish, which has goodies in, not a bunch of adverts. There will be nothing healthy in our goody bags, things they contain for example, chocolate, crisps...
3) A well stocked base camp/aid stations with plenty of nibbles and refreshments for during and post race replenishment, including the legendary Rachel's Rocky Road!
Where do I park? How do I get there?
Please refer to our Cyclopark information page.
When do I get my race number?
You'll pick this up on race day morning from the race base camp. If you're taking part in more than one day then please keep your number to use on other days.
Are there time limits?
This event is going to be slightly different time limit wise as with the parkrun permutations there might be some hanging around time for folks. As such we are just going to have an absolute cut off of 1600. Which is when the park closes, so this is a hard limit!
Any runner completing 26.2 miles will have completed marathon distance and will count as a marathon finish for the purposes of the 100 Marathon Club, if you complete over 26.2 miles then you've completed an ultra.
As long as you finish one lap of a challenge event then you'll receive an official finish time and goody bag. With timed events there are no DNFs as long as you complete one loop.
Do you have secure baggage facilities
No. But you're free to leave bags at the start/finish. There will always be someone around but we can't guarantee their security, in the event of rain we can't guarantee things won't get wet.
Trail shoes? Road Shoes?
Road shoes, its 95% or so on decent surfaces.
Is the course closed to the public?
No. We are using a network of local footpaths and trails and is shared with ramblers, dogwalkers, horseriders and cyclists. Runners do not have the right of way and need to be considerate of other users of the land. Please don't litter, we'll have a bin at the base camp and there are bins at various places along the routes.
What on course facilities do you provide?
Water, squash, nibbles, starter, timekeeper and encouragement every lap! Base station will be well stocked for all runners.
Can I leave personal drinks at the drinks station?
Yes, you may want to label it and we will not be responsible for folks drinking the wrong drinks!
Can I use an ipod or mp3 player on the course?
Yes. Though please be aware that you are running on public footpaths with the general public so make sure that you pay attention to farm vehicles, cyclists, people, dogs, horseriders, wildlife and so on. On a couple of the routes there are road crossings to be aware of too although there is no actual running along roads involved.
The entry fee is a little more than normal – why is that?
We are holding this event by kind permission of the Cyclopark Trust. We are paying a fee/donation for use of the facilities over the ten days. Cyclopark parking fees and profits from the cafe etc all go towards the upkeep of this lovely venue so please support them by paying the parking each day and buying a cake or coffee in the cafe.
Course Information (including parkrun information - will be updated before event day once we have final confirmations about the parkrun(s))
