Twenty Challenges, Twenty Days in 2020

In August 2020 to celebrate it being 2020 we'll be having our Summer 10 Challenges in 10 Days event, twice, back to back! Be the same venue, on the same route, so will be as logistically straightforward as possible.

In person event confirmed subject to social distancing... do read down!

All remaining days currently have availability

We're holding it over three weekends and the Bank Holiday Monday and partly in the summer school holidays and partly out so those who are limited on holiday can take as few days as possible off work.... and being in and out of the holidays hopefully means that just about anyone can take part in a day or two, or five or, ten or all twenty!

There are three hotels within walking distance and a brand new Travelodge within crawling distance! So things should be as simple as possible, aside from the running of course, and that is up to you! Each day will be a six hour challenge event, what distance you run each day is totally up to you...

We're deliberately holding the event on a 3.28 mile loop to keep options for runners as wide as possible, two loops are just over a 10k, four loops are 13.1 miles for a half marathon, eight loops are 26.2 miles for a marathon and there will be 20 mile a 27.2 mile short ultra and a 50k option too!

We're making these events a little lower cost than usual, again to try to make them accessible as possible. We're also trying to make them as logistically straightforward as possible for both the runners and SVN! Be a slightly simpler medal than usual, though there will be 20 variations!, we're not going to have goody bags for these events, but certainly the usual standard of SVN welcome, support and friendliness!

Please explore the races and consider joining us for one or all of them!

Course Information

Cyclopark - 3.28 Mile Loop

Mostly on wide tarmac bike paths and grassy paths and is fairly flat (well that's my flat, so about 800' climb for a marathon type distance, 100' per lap) and is mostly on wide tarmac bike paths and grassy paths.

View the route here on MapMyRun

The loop is 3.28 miles long, eight laps will make up the marathon distance. The events will be six hour challenge events. You only need to complete one lap to be a finisher. Four laps will be a Half Marathon, Five laps for a Heavy Half, Eight Laps for a Full Marathon, Nine Laps for an Ultra Marathon, there will be short loops for a 27.2 mile mini-Ultra and a 50k Ultra.

For those who have run this route before the base camp is about 25m further along away from the entrance and the cone of doom after the bridge is correspondingly 25m closer - so before the tarmac entrance to the yard there.

Covid-19 Requirements

1) For Saturday 22nd August the start window is 0900-1000.
For all other days the start window is 0800-0900.

It is possible on some days that we'll be ready to set folks off a few minutes earlier than these times but can't be guaranteed so please don't be rocking up at 0710 expecting to be able to head off.

Arrive at some point within the flexible start time and find Rachel, she'll sort you out with your number if you don't already have it. If you are running more than one event then please reuse your number.

Please take care driving up/down the little access road as this is also the route and its possible that folks will be running along this.

When you're ready to start then find Traviss lingering with the iPad of Doom and I'll start you off in ones and twos (maximum of six) as and when you're ready. This way you can start with your friends and we'll be able to split you up to a fair degree as with the best will in the world you guys can move quicker than I can find you on the iPad so that will create initial separation.

If you find on the course that you've merged in to a group of more than six, then please distance yourselves. Of course at all times adhere to social distancing and better to be running alongside people than using someone as a wind block!

2) There will be no race briefing.

3) . We do suggest bringing your own supplies. These are going to be non-goody bag events. We'll have some sealed nibbles at the aid station, but these will be basic and limited. The reality is that many things runners want simply aren't possible wrapped and secure so we 100% recommend bringing your own supplies and using your car as a drop bag. It's summer, days are likely to be warmish, frozen bottles of water and cool bags are a brilliant idea, at 1100 you'll be glad. We'll have water/squash at base camp if you need it - please remember we're cupless so do bring your own bottle/cup. There is going to be no communal drinks area and please don't touch Rachel's jugs!

4) There is going to be no communal drop bag area - please use your car for your supplies and bits .If you don't have a car then we'll have somewhere for you to leave your bags but please space them out and if you have a car - please use that.

5) We're going to manually lap count, run up to the cone at base camp and just make sure we acknowlege you and please just let us know when you're finished as there won't be a bell.

6) We're basically trying to minimise interactions and congregations of people. So please do all you can to facilitate this to keep us, you and everyone else safe.

7) Please limit supporters and spectators and if folks have to come along then please avoid as much as possible the start/finish area, base camp and any choke points on the route that there might be. Basically we're trying to minimise the amount of time folks are interacting with people.

8) Effective immediately we're amending our Fair Runners Policy so that you can swap out of an event up to 24 hours before - please - if you're feeling rough, even the vaguest of symptoms, drop us an email, we'll give you a race credit to a future event. Up to 24 hours before the event.

9) Social distancing at all times please. No hugs, hand shakes, high fives etc

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose my medal colour?
Unfortunately not - each day has a colour - which is based on how many people we have, the available colours will be laid out at the finish for you to chose from.

Where do I park? How do I get there?
Please refer to our Cyclopark information page.

For this event we're going to have the parking slightly different...

Basically park the first row nose in to the tree line.... and then leave maybe a 10 yard gap and then form a second row, if a third row is needed then this can be formed behind the southern row, there is tons of space available for the amount of runners we'll have.

Do I need to pay for parking?
Yes, it's currently £3.60 per day nomatter where you park in Cyclopark. If you are running for a number of days you can pay for a block of parking in advance to save you having to do that each day,

When do I get my race number?
You'll pick this up on race day morning from the race base camp. If you're taking part in more than one day then please keep your number to use on other days.

Are there time limits?
Yes, six hours to run as many laps as you can. You can finish at any time within the time limit and your final distance will be recorded along with your finishing time. Only complete laps within the 6 hours will be recorded or you must have left the aid station for your last lap by 5:59:59 after the start. Any runner completing 26.2 miles will have completed marathon distance and will count as a marathon finish for the purposes of the 100 Marathon Club, if you complete over 27 miles then you've completed an ultra.

As long as you finish one lap of a challenge event then you'll receive an official finish time, medal and goody bag. With timed events there are no DNFs as long as you complete one loop.

Do you have secure baggage facilities
No. We 100% suggest that people leave their belongings in their cars which will be parked just a few yards off the running line. If you don't have a vehicle then we'll have an area around base camp to leave a bag.

Trail shoes? Road Shoes?
Road shoes, its 95% or so on decent surfaces.

Is the course closed to the public?
No. We are using a network of local footpaths and trails and is shared with ramblers, dogwalkers, horseriders and cyclists. Runners do not have the right of way and need to be considerate of other users of the land. Please don't litter, we'll have a bin at the base camp and there are bins at various places along the routes.

Can I use an ipod or mp3 player on the course?
Yes. Though please be aware that you are running on public footpaths with the general public so make sure that you pay attention to farm vehicles, cyclists, people, dogs, horseriders, wildlife and so on. On a couple of the routes there are road crossings to be aware of too although there is no actual running along roads involved.
